Like any business, Satau has come to be thanks to the nerve and hard-work of its first employee. That being said, unlike most, Satau as secured itself an enviable position within its industry, without even compromising its values nor losing sight of its priorities.
Since 1981, what we are most passionate about is our customers’ success. We have never stopped believing in the importance of small businesses and as a result we are proud to support the local economy by supplying mainly independent health food stores. Along all those years, giving you great service has become as natural as our products and nothing would make us happier than continuing to do so for years to come.
It all started with a Ford Fiesta, a few bulk products and numerous round trips between Montreal and Quebec City. Trained as a biologist, Renato started his company with not much experience, but a lot of nerve. Thanks to his legendary charm, he built valuable relationships with many retailers and manufacturers. Family and friends also assisted him in order to create Satau as it is today: a family business with a solid team.
Satau is modestly launched, offering only three products: figs, apricots and Sultana raisins from Turkey. Some of its first clients are Alimentex, Le Crac, J.A. Moisan, fruiterie Roger, Centre de la santé La Mie and La Grande Ruche.
Satau starts distributing the organic cereals from Nature’s Path Foods, which were known under the name “Manna” at the time.
Satau buys its first computer, a Macintosh Plus from Apple.
Satau begins to distribute the delicious nut butters from Nuts to You Nut Butter, a young but promising company.
Satau moves into a new office located at 425 Meloche Avenue in Dorval where it will stay for 25 years and will have the office and warehouse space enlarged at least three times over this period.
Satau is awarded the distributor with the highest sales volume by Nature’s Path.
Satau decides not to distribute its products to big supermarket chains. The goal is simple: honour its commitment to independent stores and continue to do business with its lifelong customers, that is, small businesses dedicated to promoting natural and organic food.
After receiving it in 2003, Satau wins once again the CHFA Supplier of Excellence Award.
Having long postponed the inevitable, Satau is finally connected to the Internet
Satau moves from 425 Meloche Avenue in Dorval to 71 Brunswick Boulevard in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, doubling its warehouse.
Thanks to the trust of its many clients and the work of its employees, Satau is celebrating 35 years of existence.
Previously specialized in non-perishable foods, Satau expands its products offering with a wide selection of refrigerated products.
